Long Distance Adventures

There is something to be said for the human spirit, something really beautiful. Not all people are living their dreams, not all are ready to risk everything, but they prefer to live life as it was supposed to be lived, the thrill of adventure and a chance to prove himself. For those, I salute you, you are my inspiration. Let me explain.

The Los Angeles Times, June 11, 2010 was an article titled, “Search for Teen Solo Sailor, Catherine Saillant, My-Thuan Tran and Rich Connell of Abby Sutherland, aged 16, who sailed around the world and got hit with a massive rogue wave, causing the mast to run away – and she had no choice but to call it quits when it triggered an emergency beacon it.

Her brother, Zac Southerland, appeared in Boating Magazine in August 2009 issue, when he finished his world record in the global sailing expedition; “SoCal Teen Historic Voyage comes to an end, and his journey took just over a year, 367 days, 28000 miles only 36 foot boat named “Intrepid,” and he did it at age 17. Heck of a family, would not you say?

There was another great article in the Journal of the sea in June 2010 issue; “For the first time on a journey Circumnavigators Post Book ‘Ambrosia Sarabia. Wow, I think, if I pulled that off, I would have written a book as well!

In another article in the Journal of Boating in June 2010 reported on the 2 girls who took a small boat on the 84-day journey from Chicago and then to Mississippi and Florida to cut [You can do this, you ask, yes, there are rivers, cut through, if your boat is small enough] on the Atlantic coast to the Chesapeake River Delaware River from the Atlantic Ocean, to the Hudson and several other rivers in Canada and the Great Lakes region back into the river in Wisconsin ends in Waupaca.
